April 27, The WNDC Lunch Program “America’s Russian Problem: A New Chapter”

On April 25 at 1pm, as part of the Woman’s National Democratic Club’s monthly “US Role in a Changing World” series; I will discussing “America’s Russian Problem: A New Chapter.”

Our next meeting of the Nation Magazine Discussion Group in DC will focus on the history of US-Russian relations, and how the Cold War between capitalism and communism appeared to end, but now seems to have resumed and is intensifying between two nuclear super-powers who both threaten democracy in an increasingly multi-centered world which could easily escalate into a hot war over Syria, Ukraine or somewhere else.

More time should be devoted to the study of diplomatic history in order to examine precedents for improving bilateral relations.  Fear is driving us toward arms races; diplomacy could drive us to arms control and disarmament as well as a more stable international environment.
